By this point in my college career, I've definitely become accustomed to being busy. This semester, however, has proved more overwhelming than most at times. As a result, I haven't had the opportunity to serve the community
as much as I used to, which is a regret that I hope to rectify next semester and in the future. I received a great opportunity to serve this week when my fraternity was invited to assist country music star Tracy Lawrence with his event, Mission Possible.

The event, now in its second year, took place at the Nashville Rescue Mission downtown. Tracy's goal was to provide a meal to those in need by frying and distributing hundreds of turkeys. Since he is also a fellow brother of Sigma Pi, receiving the chance to help out was very exciting.

About fifteen of us arrived on the scene in a parking lot packed with people and deep fryers. As the birds finished cooking, we packaged them and stored them for giveaway. After the frying was finished, we loaded all of the
equipment into trailers and cleaned the area, which was naturally saturated with grease.

Our trip to the Rescue Mission yielded other benefits as well. After the event we were able to meet Tracy and pose for a photo with him, as well as obtain a signed and personalized hat for display on our mantel. We also had the chance to talk to Brad Arnold, lead singer of the band 3 Doors Down, who
was in town to help with the event. We left that evening not only with these memories, but also the also the knowledge that we had played a part, however minute, in making a difference to Nashville families.

Tracy told us that he hopes to set a Guinness World Record for frying the most turkeys in one day at next year's event, and assured us that he would need our assistance even more then. Needless to say, we will be out in full force next time, especially if there's a record at stake!

On a side note, the glorious smell of that turkey has finally managed to get me into the spirit of the holidays. I can't wait to go home and share food and fellowship with the family (not to mention, a break from exams will be nice as well). Happy Thanksgiving to all!
