OOOne of the most thrilling parts of attending
MTSU is the live performances sponsored by
groups on campus.

AfroFlow, which literally means "flowing from
Africa," is a form of self-expression and "an
approach to making music" according to its
website. The AfroFlow movement came to our campus
Monday. It is a large group of performers expressing
themselves through hip-hop and rap music.
Each performer conveyed their negative
feelings on big tobacco corporations, their
support for the average college student
working their way toward an education, and
how women should be treated with the utmost
respect.

I cannot speak for anyone but myself, but
rap and hip hop sometimes have very negative
lyrical content. It was extremely refreshing
to have the privilege of watching such a positive
musical experience.

MTSU encourages open-mindedness in all sorts
of creative ways. The live performances the
University hosts are just one way MTSU opens
its students up to new, exciting opportunities.

AfroFlow, sponsored by the American Cancer
Society, continues its tour of colleges all over
the nation. There is no doubt in my mind they took
a piece of Blue Raider spirit with them on the road to
awareness.
