"If you can dream it, you can do it."

That is a saying I hold very close to my
heart because it inspires people to take
risks.

The Recording Industry Professional Fraternity
I'm involved in, Omega Delta Psi, encourages all
of its members to take risks and try to get in
contact with some of the most seasoned and
experienced industry professionals. We invite
them to come speak to us in hope that we can
follow in their footsteps and do great things.

Tuesday evening we had a songwriter, Michael
Garvin, come in to speak with us. The invitation
was extended beyond our fraternity to the entire
campus to give others a chance to learn something
new. Garvin has written hit songs for several very
well known performers including Jennifer Lopez.

Garvin discussed publishing deals, how he writes
songs, how he prepares to write, and how dealing
with the recording industry on an international
level (he writes songs for artists around the
globe) is different than dealing with the industry
in America.

After taking photographs of Garvin receiving an
honorary member plaque from us, I realized that
if I was not an MTSU student, I would've never
gotten to experience things so up close and
personally.

It is events like this that continue to remind
me how special MTSU is. It's not like the rest,
and I love that about MT.
